It’s raining on and off here today, so no going out and sitting on the deck.

People keep saying extremely nice things about Swords of the Serpentine and that’s been terrific.

Also, I hit a large turnip market spike today on Animal Crossing.  As people have come to my island, this has spurred conversations about how lovely the world of ACNH is.  Dodo Airlines lets you take whatever you want on an airplane.  Two axes, a pole, a shovel, two microscopes, a chalkboard-slash-murderwall, and a dubious anatomical model?  DONE.  No one asks questions!

I’m somewhat afraid if I pay off my house then I will never want to play again because the thing that keeps me logging in are goals.  But on the other hand, I have a bunch of ramps to build and none of my villager houses have back yards yet.  Also, I haven’t built my Witching Tower at the top of my home.  So I still have goals.

But I have been playing a ton of Rune Factory 4.  I have not decided who I want to marry in that game.  I’m sort of thinking hard core princess bachelorette, the kind of princess that beats the crap out of things with giant spoons.

I’m back on the ML treadmill — learning things — but not yet back on the Rust treadmill.  My problem is that there are only so many hours in the day and I’m torn in free time between wanting to hobby -> read -> play games -> write neat stuff.  I’m not using my leisure time effectively!  I clearly need to get some JIRA boards going to manage my time!

My hobby list is currently (although not in ticket form):

  • Learn enough ML to effectively rewrite birdcam (nearly complete, I started writing neural nets with Keras on test data sets this week).
  • Get through enough Rust roguelike tutorial to grind through the procedural map generation algorithms and understand them.  I have various uses for procedural map generation that is muhahahaha.
  • Write something quick and Eversink in ink.  Probably a heart-pounding chase.
  • Read every book on Earth and play every game.

That last dot is what soaks all my time.

I’m taking Kate to get her hair cut tomorrow.  It’s the first haircut since early March (yikes) so we are shaggy.  I’ll report back on how weird the experience is.

Then Kate is going to make brownies from scratch and I am going to assist.  Honestly, brownies from scratch are not harder than brownies from a box and they taste better, IMO.  I watched Paul Hollywood make hot cross buns last night and I’m pretty sure I can reproduce.  But they are an Easter treat, not a middle of the summer treat, so I need to find a good fruity bread for the summer time.

Or I could make more cookies.  The sables were pretty awesome even though they had 10,000 steps.  I could make more sables.

But first, I need to get the barm cakes to work.  DAMN YOU BARM CAKES!

Meanwhile, I’m totally hooked on the Murderbot books.  Good: I will run out eventually.  Bad: I will run out eventually.

Tomorrow I will write about another favorite thing in Eversink.
